Amanda Nevill CBE

Amanda Nevill was the CEO of the British Film Institute (BFI), an internationally recognised cultural organisation and the lead body for film and the moving image in the UK. She played a key role in developing the screen ecosystem, ensuring the UK’s competitive position and fostering growth through inward investment and exports, each valued at £1.7 billion. During her tenure, she launched the ‘BFI Film Forever’ strategy in 2012 and contributed to sustained economic growth in the film sector.

 

With over 30 years of leadership experience, Amanda has worked across the charity, public, and private sectors, particularly in Europe, China, and the US. She is known for her strategic development skills and passion for organisational change, driven by her motto, “Make things happen.” Her commitment to inclusion and diversity is evident through the adoption of BFI diversity standards and the funding of the BFI Film Academy. She has received notable awards, including the Veuve Clicquot Social Purpose Award (2018) and The Barclays Business Women in Film & TV Award (2016).

Amanda has a robust history of leadership and organisational transformation. As CEO of the BFI, she was responsible for the development and protection of the UK’s screen ecosystem, ensuring it remained a competitive and creatively exciting territory. She delivered the first holistic strategy for UK film and the moving image, ‘BFI Film Forever,’ which led to significant economic contributions from the film sector.

 

Her extensive international experience spans Europe, China, and the US, where she has led people and transformed organisations at the intersection of charity, public, and private sectors. Amanda’s expertise in strategy development and organisational change is well recognised, and her efforts in promoting inclusion and diversity in the film industry have had a lasting impact.

 

Amanda’s Board experience is extensive, having sat on and chaired numerous committees across the screen industry, academia, and government. Her contributions have been acknowledged with awards like the Veuve Clicquot Social Purpose Award and The Barclays Business Women in Film & TV Award.
